A century of industrial fishing and whaling has emptied the world’s oceans, according to one of the world’s most prominent fisheries scientists. Professor Daniel Pauly paints a bleak picture of humanity’s relationship to the sea – but on climate change, the biggest challenge we now face, he still has hope that humans will turn things around in time.
